Week 3 (Day 1), What I Did Today – Photoshop Experimenting

So today, I basically played around with Photoshop again.

What it looks like

This is basically what my playing around with the picture has made it look like. Still working on it. Slow progress, but progress nonetheless.

So, some things I’ve learned today:

  • Navigator  – I learned to make use of the windows menu at the top. They have a lot of useful things that open up at the side bar. Navigator, for example is very useful. Navigator allows me to zoom in and out, and pan the screen very easily. This is a very useful tool, especially for software like Photoshop, where you constantly adjust the image, zooming and panning across the screen.

The Navigator

  • History –

The History Tool

So this is  another windows tool I learned today. For some reason, the undo option (Ctrl+Z), only undo’s an action from one step before. After that, you can only re-do the action. Or, you have to step backwards, which may be a bit of a hassle and not that accurate. History allows me to undo and view all my actions that I’ve done, much like the history of a web browser. Although, it would have been better if I could select certain things to undo, without having to undo everything that I did after it.

The Windows Menu (History and Navigator can both be found in the windows menu)

  •  Brush – One last thing I learned today. This is not from the windows menu. This can be found in the top left corner of the screen. It can be used to adjust the size of the tool. So say, for example I’m using the eraser tool. If I wanted to erase in smaller detail, I would make it have a small diameter, so that it would have a smaller area of impact. So my eraser tool would only erase a very tiny portion every time I move the cursor.  Or, if I wanted the eraser to erase a large area I would change the diameter to a large number. It’s basically like adjusting the line size (or something like that).

The Brush

I can’t really say what I have learnt  today about the different ways of extracting images and deleting the background. I don’t really have much to talk about.  Aside from the few other techniques I talked about in the last post, I have seen a few others, but I don’t really have anything profound yet. I have yet to fully understand/even know how to use them, so I cannot really talk about them as of yet. Will talk about them when I am able to use them effectively.
